The World’s first UVC LED Embedded Disinfection Robot launched in Singapore

As the global pandemic situation worsens, it is critical for us to disinfect each and every place. However, with that in mind, there are a large number of places to be disinfected for people safely, and it will be very difficult for humans to disinfect and satisfy such a huge response in such a short amount of time. For this, Singapore’s Otsaw – a local robot manufacturer – announced that it has launched the world first UVC LED based autonomous robot for disinfection. The robot, named “O-RX,” is created in only eight weeks from conceptualization, design, materials procurement, prototype testing to certification. The UVC LED embedded disinfecting robot also passed safety testing and has been certified by TUV SUD. Other disinfection robots mainly uses mercury UV lamps this robot O-RX utilizes the UVC LED technology that emits only UVC light, which has been proven to be effective to deactivate microbes, including harmful bacteria and the coronavirus such as COVID-19. Otsaw has claimed that the robot has a disinfection rate of more than 99.999% with a range of 2.5 meters.

Since the robot must move autonomously it is equipped with camera and sensors integrated artificial intelligence technologies. It can be used with 5 hours of full charge. Researchers at the Agency for Science, Technology and Research’s (A*STAR) Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SimTech) provided their thermal management solution to help remove heat generated by the LED since LED produces some amount of heat. A trial run of the UVC LED disinfecting robot will begin a shopping mall Wisma Atria from July 15, 2020 in Singapore.

In our point of view it is a very good initiative by Otsaw. All the organization has to do some inventions according to the situation and keep on moving forward. And, it is important to think out of scope other than our limited area. If an LED technology light consultancy or firms thinks whether their lights will be used only decorate homes and commercial area and failed to extend out of scope, then they will be far behind and can never be number one. Some leading firms are now fitting motion sensors with light and thermal sensors with the light, Smart lighting technologies and moving forward and still exploring new things. So, every firm should always think out of scope and always move forward. But to keep in mind the new technology should be user friendly, eco-friendly, reduced in the burden cost to consumers and easily adoptable with lower cost. With that, it can reach out to all the people around the globe.
